Australia's Last Sheepskin Tannery

How to Identify Genuine UGG Australia® Boots

We’ve received many questions about imitation UGG boots. The UGG is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as "Originally Australian. A type of soft boot or slipper, typically made from sheepskin with the fleece side facing inwards."

What Sets UGG Australia® Apart

At UGG Australia®, we only use 100% genuine twin-face sheepskin, tanned in Australia’s last sheepskin tannery. We never use:

  • Bonded wool
  • Synthetic blends
  • Suede laminated to single-face sheepskin

We do not supply any other brands, meaning competitors’ sheepskin is manufactured outside Australia.

Unfortunately, many lookalike products use misleading terms like “sheepskin wool”, “wool”, “plush”, or “suede” — often made from up to 98% synthetic materials. Terms like “Australian Sheepskin” are often used deceptively. While they suggest local authenticity, these sheepskins are made offshore and typically lack traceability.

How to Spot Authentic UGG Australia®

  • Look for our registered trademark: UGG Australia® — no extra words like Boot, Classic, Original, Outlet, Shepherd, Yellow, DK or Since
  • Inside every genuine boot is a stitched-in yellow label with:
    • Tanned in Australia
    • Made in Australia
  • This label is stitched inside the lining, not added externally. We call this our First Stitch Guarantee
  • Every boot is cut, stitched, and glued in Australia under strict Australian Made regulations
